«Reborn from the ashes»

Reborn from the ashes

Silence descended on the scorched garden’s floor,

In the half-dark, words froze at the door.

Those who betrayed me won’t come back around,

And the grass will scarce recall their sound.

I lay ‘mong the rocks, turned to dust and bone,

Where only a handful of void had grown…

But through this cold, and ash, and dread,

A sprout broke through the dark, and spread.

I’m alive again, returned from the night,

Reborn like a phoenix from ash.

In a world so strange, in winter’s chill light,

My soul grew strong in the fire’s flash.

Now I am mighty, I see the dawn’s gleam,

The old chains are shattered and torn.

I live once more, my own light I beam…

And treasure each fragment and morn.

Every breath that I take is a wonder of earth,

Given to warm and to keep safe and true.

All the grudges and pains have vanished from view,

With the weight of the meetings that never came through.

My wings are strong, though scorched and worn,

New blood in them does pulse and churn.

Lies no longer wound this heart of mine,

I’m ready to rise, again and again.

Fire is but the start of the way,

For those who know how to forgive.

I needed only to burn away,

To appear clean and new—as I live.
